New Car Owner Checklist (Philippines): Everything to Set Up From Day One

Congratulations on the new ride. The first few weeks of ownership are the best time to set up habits and paperwork that will save you money and stress for years. Here’s a practical checklist for new car owners in the Philippines — from documents to your first service to the routines worth building now.

1. Get your documents in order

Gather everything and store both the originals (safely) and digital copies:

• Certificate of Registration (CR) and Official Receipt (OR) — keep a copy in the car and a photo on your phone.
• Sales invoice / deed of sale — proof of ownership.
• CTPL and comprehensive insurance policies — including policy numbers and hotlines.
• Owner’s manual — your source of truth for service intervals and specs.
• Casa service records — start a folder now; you’ll thank yourself at resale.

2. Sort out insurance

You need a valid CTPL before the car can be registered — it’s compulsory. Most new buyers also carry comprehensive insurance (often bundled by the dealer for year one) to cover own-damage, theft, and flood. 3. Know your registration schedule

4. Set up your maintenance schedule

A new car is the easiest car to keep records for, because you’re starting from zero. Note your car’s service intervals from the manual and plan for:

• The first check-up around 1,000 km.
• Then the regular PMS every 5,000 km or 6 months while under warranty.
• Longer-interval items like brake fluid, coolant, and transmission fluid down the line.

5. Build the small habits now

• Log every fill-up so you learn your car’s normal km/L from the beginning.

• Do a weekly walk-around — tires, lights, fluid levels, anything leaking.
• Keep a service history — a documented, well-maintained car sells for more.
