What is the best 4x4 in 2026?
There is no single winner — it depends on budget and use. For a do-everything workhorse pickup, the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max lead. What do approach and departure angles mean?
They describe the steepest ramp a vehicle can climb onto (approach, front) or drop off (departure, rear) without the bumper touching. Bigger angles and higher ground clearance mean fewer scrapes on rough terrain. The Jeep Wrangler (44° approach) and Suzuki Jimny lead here thanks to short overhangs.
Do I need low range and a diff lock?
For serious off-road use, yes. Low range (a second set of shorter gears in the transfer case) gives you slow, controlled torque for climbs and descents. What is wading depth?
