How far does the BYD Seagull really go?
BYD quotes 305 km CLTC for the 30.1 kWh battery and 405 km CLTC for the 38.9 kWh. CLTC is the most optimistic of the four test cycles in common use — considerably more generous than WLTP and far more so than EPA. Treat the quoted figure as a ceiling and expect meaningfully less in real driving, especially at speed.
Why is the BYD Seagull so cheap?
Scale and battery chemistry. It is built in enormous volume on BYD's own LFP Blade battery, which is cheaper than nickel-based chemistries, and it is a small four-seat city car rather than a long-range machine. Prices start around RMB 69,900 in China.
Can you buy a BYD Seagull in the US or Europe?
No. It is sold in China and exported to Latin America and parts of Southeast Asia, in some markets under the Dolphin Mini name. It is not offered in the United States, and is not part of BYD's mainstream European line-up.
