Unlike the part-time systems in the Hilux/Fortuner, Super Select lets you run full-time 4WD (with an open centre diff) on any surface including dry tarmac, then lock the centre diff — and drop to low range — when it gets rough. It is one of the most flexible 4WD setups in the class.
Is the Montero Sport underpowered?
Its 2.4 makes 179 hp / 430 Nm — the lowest figures of the mainstream seven-seaters — but the eight-speed auto masks it well in daily driving. If outright grunt matters, the Everest or Fortuner pull harder.
